iMac Processors & RAM

Can someone clear something up for me? I've read a lot of conflicting information regarding the processors and ram in the new iMacs. Here's what I've read so far -

The 21.5'' models use notebook processors, and only have 2 RAM slots maxing out at 8gb.

The 27'' models use desktop processors, have 4 RAM slots maxing out at 16gb.


Now, can anyone confirm if this is correct? Or how much of it is wrong? Thanks!

No, they are all desktop processors: E7600, E8600, i5 2,66, i7 2,8

Thanks for clearing that up. There's a few reviews out there stating that the iMacs are using notebook processors...glad to hear it's not true

In the previous models they did. And they are still using mobile graphic cards though.

Apple's only using notebook GPUs in the iMacs because they have to... desktop GPUs don't physically fit, at least in the 21.5" iMac. The 27", however, is an entirely different story. That one uses a desktop-class motherboard, due to the extra space in the enclosure, so I'd imagine that everything else in there is desktop-class too, including the GPU, which, if I remember correctly, had to be placed on the opposite side of the enclosure relative to the CPU to get the heatsinks both use to fit.
