I would buy a new mouse. The Apple Mighty Mouse sucks in my opinion. But the keyboard is perfect for me. It's small and compact and looks good. Also if you are getting the cheapest one get the Apple Remote with it.

Personally, I would hold off buying the mouse. Try it out first, then if you don't like it, buy a new one. I love the mighty mouse, others hate it. You may find you like it.

Other than that, there's not much else to buy. Printer/scanner, maybe. External hard drive?

Because then the keyboard and mouse and monitor would have to be bought separately?
Because a Core2Duo iMac will keep better resale value?

emerica, are you going for the $999 combo drive or the $1199 DVD-RW with Radeon X1600?

i was going to buy the $999 but im thinking of just ditching out the extra and getting the $1199 would it be that much of a difference in performance and everything?

i was thinking about the mac mini but i went last weekend to the apple store to check out the mac mini and imac.

and to buy the mini then the screen, keyboard, mouse and everything it would be much more than the imac, and im not one of those kiddos that just has to have the latest and whatever so yeah ill be fine with the current imac.

arrgghh now i started thinking about a mac mini...

i added it all up and it comes out to a bit under 1,100 for the mac mini with the monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard i want.

i sorta wanna get the mini now because i can get a larger screen than the 17inch i would get with the imac.

but im still not sure...

i have an ibook currently that poopd out on me, so im getting a desktop, for the time being but i will be getting a macbook before school in january so yeah.

i mainly just used my ibook for music, watching dvds, surfing the net.

so what should i get haha,i need to decide by friday, well tomorrow since its after midnight....gosh i hate being so indecisive haha.

help please

i would actually get a 1.83 core duo macbook. it's $799 on the refurb store, and it could hold you over until your next purchase. you can attach a bigger monitor if you like, or not. it's the ultimate pay-as-you-go solution.

get the iMac - the screen is amazing, and it's a brilliant computer... I got my iMac last November - it's just brilliant!

keyboard is nice, but get a protector coz it will get dirty and as it's clear you'll see all bits that get inside.

mouse scroller breaks after 2 weeks - shame though as I like the functionality and feel...

well if you go with the imac, personally i like the mighty mouse. i've had mine since january and while the scroller has gotten dirty and stopped functioning several times, it's an easy fix. all you need to do is take a wet paper towel and use it to roll the ball around for a couple minutes. let it dry out, then your scroller is good as new.

good luck with whichever computer you end up getting!

iMac over the mac mini, but Macbook over iMac if you want portability. MacMini has lots of wires and stuff, and i think it just looks messy. i prefer a neat all in one solution (iMac). Its your choice though..

i'd stick with the mighty mouse initially - ive recently got a 24 inch imac and have had no problems with it - the ball sticks from time to time but it seems easy enough to clean.

That's a nice surprise to come home to! Sounds as if the timing will work out pretty well for you too with v. nice MBPs available for when you're shopping for one in January.

I can't bring myself to call ANY keyboard that still incorporates the NumPad as "small and compact".
