Ok.

Today (Monday), I am going to take the plunge and buy the 20" 2.4GHz ($1499).

Here's my dilemma: I'm terribly, terribly impatient (and do need it ASAP) and have the option of either going to the my local apple store to pick one up right then and there and deal with the un-customized-ness of it, OR order from the online store with 2GB ram and wait it out.

Now, I'm pretty sure the store doesn't carry 20" 2.4GHz iMacs with 2GB of RAM already customized in, but please correct me if i'm wrong.

If not, please offer some advice (do i need 2GB of RAM? - is the shipping delayed?) and consider my impatient-ness and severe need for this machine.

Thanks!

If your only upgrade is RAM, I'd check the RAM prices from your local stores (esp. if you're only going to 2GB total, which means you will only need to *add* 1 stick of 1GB SODIMM RAM). Chances are, you'll save a bit by doing it that way, and you won't cause any delay in getting your unit (either from Apple direct or from your local store). The RAM should be easy enough to install yourself; I haven't done it on mine yet, but am not worried about it, esp. since it's SODIMM b/c they are easy to install. I am waiting for 1x2GB to be "affordable"... HTH.

It is usually LOT cheaper to buy the RAM from online(such as OWC) then any of the local stores or upgrade from apple store. Just be little patient and you will be rewarded. Plus, it is very easy to install RAM for yourself, it only took me about 3 minutes.
