iMac RAM boot problem

I have an white iMac 24" intel core 2 duo and also a Macbook Pro 2.4ghz intel. I just bought new ram for the mbp so I decided to try if the old ram would work with the iMac since it looked like the same kind of memory. After trying and getting the light error when booting I changed it to the two 512mb modules that came with the iMac.

The problem is that it doesn't boot neither now. I have tried changing the modules one in each slot and vice versa but nothing. I can't get it to boot. I always get the blinking light.

Any ideas?

What iMac and MBP do you have? It might be that the MBP uses DDR3 while iMac uses DDR2. Put the original RAM back to BOTH machines and try booting

Make sure the RAM is well seated before booting.

The mbp is a 2.4ghz metallic enclosure (not the new models unibody) but boots just fine with the new ram the problem is with the iMac. It is a 24" white imac with intel core 2 duo (2.14ghz I believe) and came with 1gb of memory (2 modules of 512mb), when I looked the specs of the ram in system profile it said DDR2 SDRAM 667mhz (just the same as the mbp).

I think the RAM is well seated although I had some trouble with that because sometimes one of the modules dropped, can it be just that the pieces of plastic that are supposed to hold the modules are not working fine?
