I've recently bought an 20" imac with 1gb ram, but i wanted to upgrade it to 2gb. Have I to buy 2x 1gb ram or just 1x 1gb (because 1gb is already inside) ?

I believe the iMac you are talking about has 2 slots both with 512 mb of ram in them. So you will not be able to reuse them. You should get 2 1 gig sticks

I have a 20" iMac which has 2 ram slots and 1gb ram but one of the slots are empty so it means you can just get another 1gb stick.

Go to About this mac then more info then memory and it will tell you what is in each slot.

I've got the early 2008 model, have you the same one?
At the moment I'm not at home and I can't check About This Mac...

I'm just about to upgrade my mac with an extra 2gb to add to the 1 gb I have already. Does it matter which way round they go? i.e. does the 2gb have to go in the slot that is currently being used by the 1gb ram?
