imac reboots

bought a new 21.5" imac for my daughter about 2 months ago, model MC508LL/A

everything seems to run fine on it but when she plays starcraft 2, the imac will just reboot randomly, no warning or anything

I was thinking maybe it was a heat issue but dragon age seems to play fine with no reboots

so far no other apps have caused it to reboot, however, sc2 runs perfectly fine on my mac pro

I was wondering if anyone else has seen anything else like that? no apple stores near here so getting it checked out is going to be a huge hassle

did apple diag from disc and no errors...is there some other app that can stress test it maybe to see if that causes it to reboot? blizzard support seems to think it is heat or memory related

found a mac version of prime95 so I'm going to do some torture testing on the cpu/ram and see if it reboots

Repair permissions?

Are you up to date on software?

Other than that idk.

Could possibly go to Applications > Utilities > Console and look at the messages in there and see what the last messages are before the iMac rebooted. It may give you a clue.

I've done all the repair permissions and everything is completely up to date.

I looked at the console messages first time she said it was happening and nothing out of the ordinary in there.

probably overheating?

SC2 -> CPU/Graphics intensive -> heat -> too much heat -> autoshutdown/reboot.

Try play the game on a new profile....if it still freezes the you could do a re-install.

ran prime95 for a while and couldn't get the cpu much above 75c seemed to be stable

I ran sc2 windowed while prime95 was running and the gpu got up to 82c

...it didn't reboot though

I'm thinking maybe a gpu overheat/reboot problem instead of a cpu or mem overheat and reboot problem.

stopped tests, daughter started playing sc2 and she got a reboot, I don't know what the temps were at the time of reboot

no idea what the threshold is before it reboots

running hardware monitor now with history saved every 60 seconds

hopefully I will see if there is any correlation on the heat and rebooting
