iMac Refurbs GONE

Just noticed that there have been no refurb iMac's available at the UK Apple Store online this week. As far as I've noticed, there has ALWAYS been at least one 24'' iMac available there, but now...nothing.

Whether this means anything or not, is anyone's guess.

Same thing happened before the MacBook speedbumps. Well, with MacBooks instead of iMacs.

Better to borrow (a friend's/relative's second Mac - and many do have a second, generally older - Mac) or hire a Mac for the 4 weeks or so till the stunning new iMacs arrive!
Only in extremis consider buying a "living fossil" iMac!

I've tracked iMac prices since late '03 (though only in March/April '07 motivated to buy (I have other Macs): Consider these facts:

November '03: (dome flat screen) iMac 20" 1.25GHz G4; 256MB RAM; 80GB HD; No Airport/Bluetooth or iSight! = $2199.
August '04: iMac 20" 1.8GHz G5; 256MB RAM; 160GB HD; Slot SD = $1899.
May '05: iMac 20" 2GHz G5; 512MB RAM; 250GB HD; SD = $1799.
October '05: iMac 20" 2.1GHz G5; 512MB RAM; 250GB HD; SD; iSight = $1699
January '06: iMac 20" 2GHz Intel Core Duo; 512MB RAM; 250GB; Dual SD; iSight; Bluetooth = $1699.
September '06: iMac 20" 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 1GB RAM; 250GB HD;
Dual SD; iSight; Bluetooth = $1499.

Note: the $200 price drop in 9 months (Jan - September '06)
Note: the superior specification; also, students buy Macs before starting degree courses in September - Wait till mid-August! You'll not regret it.

Further evidence for imminent new models: a large UK vendor (Macwarehouse) has had no 20" or 24" iMacs in stock for 4 weeks...

IMHO, that is a pretty darn good assessment of the iMac product cycle, August seems to be the time when the BIG update is.

I have said this before but there seems to be no sense in upgrading the iMac to Santa Rosa. Its a minor upgrade and more for laptops. The current C2D is fast enough and can go on a bit longer without the ppl ranting and demanding an update.

I would love to buy an iMac with 4GB RAM, new design, new Apple keyboard design, Penryn cores. I have started thinking that the current iMac design doesnt look 'new' and as sexy as it used to.

Here's my guess:

September: SJ introduces new iMacs at the Paris Expo and announces that they will be shipping in Oct. He also announces that the new iLife/iWork will be packaged with Leopard.

October: Leopard is released, new iMacs ship with Leopard and iWork/iLife.

My exact same guess. Good call! Either way, I'm going to take advantage of the back-to-school sale (I work for a University and my wife is a grad student). My only regret will be being stuck with the Radeon x1600 in the IMac i want to buy. Anyone have any good experience playing games with this card?
