iMac Refurbs or a new iMac?

Hi all,

Noob here, looking at the iMac 24inch 3.06 GHz model.

They currently list one in the refurb section of the Apple Online Store for around $1800.

What's the general take on these units, are they just slightly owned ones, demos possibly or is there more to them?

The new one I'm looking at would be about 400 to 500 more but new.

Second, is the 3.06 that much better over the 2.8 GHz model?
