Hi there
Just 3 weeks after my one year guarantee expired, suddenly this line appeared on my screen (see attachments for picture and my specs). Anyone knows what it may be? My guess is that is a graphics card issue (AMD Radeon R9 M295X) if so, any idea of the cost to replace it?

Thank you

It will probably be expensive - call apple, they'll give you the price and they may even fix it for free, since your warranty just expired. The longer you wait, however the less likely they'll help you out on this, so don't delay.

Good luck

if you are in the UK you should be entitled to 6yrs Sales of goods 'working' coverage as detailed in Apple's support/AppleCare pages.

Thank you maflynn but "probably be expensive" does not answer the question. What may sound expensive to you may be ok for others. Does anyone knows the price of this graphic card? AMD Radeon R9 M295X can't find the price anywhere!

Thank you scoobeesnac. Yes I am in UK. I have an appointment with apple next friday to look at the issue. I had a look at apple's Care page and its not very clear, it does not say what the 6 years sales of goods entitles. If we have 6 years coverage, why they always try to sell you the 3 years coverage plan? is it because the 6 years covers only malfunction and faulty equipment, and the 3 years apple plan covers accidents too?

Thank you

IIRC my 2013 MacPro's graphics card item cost was ~£250.

Applecare provides technical support/telephone and WW repair coverage - potentially things breaking that were not a manufacturer defect. The 6 years cover ensures that goods are of sufficient quality for that time as reasonably can be expected. Apple in my experience are pretty good at honouring that by default. I would expect a computer of this calibre to last 6 years without failure of components.

As you may know - you get the best cover by buying with a credit card/finance. See MoneySavingExpert site.

I had a similar line in my previous computer (MBP). It appeared as a white line first and then after few weeks it became green. Its warranty was expired too. When I took it to the App Store, they said that the display needed to be replaced and its gonna cost a lot.

The M295X GPU Chip is soldered into the Mainboard so, try to leverage the manufacturing defect. ;)

p.s.: it can be the display, best thing is to go asap in an Apple Store and have it checked.

The chances are quite high that they would honor the warranty since it's so close to the expiration. Also, if you charged this, most credit cards double the manufacturer warranty.

Hi there, just to update in this issue. Friday went to apple store and they seem very confident that is a display problem. The repair cost is £400 and its covered by the Consumer Law Coverage.

Thank you
