I recently received a 1gig memory upgrade that I ordered online. My problem was the single screw that needs to open in order to install the memory would not turn. I didn't want to strip the screw, so I made an appointment with one of the Apple geniuses. I took in my new 20" IMac this past Saturday and the "genius" was also unable to turn the screw. It was probably manufactured wrong.

Without me even asking, the "genius" went in the back room and brought out a new IMac for me. This is an example of good customer service. I've become so use to bad service from corporate America. Thank you Apple for doing the right thing!!

That's awesome, Apple has always gotten high marks for customer service. I think in the last 2 years their retail stores have gotten even better.
That situation worked out great for you unfortunately it wouldn't be that easy for people with BTO computers.

I'm not surprised.

Apple's Customer Service is one of the best I've experienced.

Cool Kammron, That's pretty sweet. And they didn't make you pay extra?

Anyway stockcerts, I've got the 20" 2.4 Ghz iMac and I have the same problem. I can turn the screw counter clockwise, but it won't unscrew at all:(. So hopefully I can get a sweet deal like you. Does anyone know if you can easily clone the hard drive? I'd like to keep everything I have on my computer including my Windows partition. Also does anyone know, if that's possible then will Windows need to be reactivated afterwards:mad:?

Has anyone been able to resolve this problem without going to the Apple store? I really don't feel like doing the 100 mile drive.

That's not actually a "known" problem, that screw thing may not be well designed from the factory. I just received my new 24" 2.8 yesterday and I had to install my 3rd party ram. After reading these postings I paid careful attention and got the exact screw driver and turned the screw (which was tight BTW) and had no issues. Installed the ram and turned the screw closed. Not accusing anyone but some people are actually stripping the screw out of carelessness.
