is there any negative repercussions with keeping my imac at the max brightness? to me it doesnt seem like the brightest screen even at the max setting, and its always been like this. anything i should look into?

If you let it sleep at night and not have it constantly on, you can extend the life of that LCD, I'm sure it will last a long time but you never know with computers. There is no problem with max brightness, just make sure that when your away from the computer that you have the right energy settings.

If it's not bright enough, then you must be in a bright room or you're too used to brighter displays. I don't know i'm throwing guesses out there.

I can't believe that you can stand it at the maximum brightness! I have mine on the dimmest setting and it's still bright. I used to use a program called Shades, but I've finally got used to the dimmest setting.

i actually can't believe you use it at the brightest setting either. are you insane? why don't you have a few espresso's and smoke some marlboro red's to go along with that inducing migraine.

i have mine on the dimmest setting. i use shades when its late or i've been on it a long time also. great app.

Your CFL (LEDs suffer from this, too) WILL degrade faster at the brightest setting. Physics here.

So at the brightest setting - all the time - it will color shift faster, and the overall life expectancy of the lamp will shorten faster than compared to a lower intensity.

And ditto the comments on the intensity. How can you even stand it on the high settings? I have my brightness turned all the way down, even "calibrated" the color profile to degrade it even further - and it's STILL (@*#ing bright. I think my iMac is actually capable of giving me sunburn. :p

My wife and I each have 24" iMacs and we keep them both at the lowest brightness. I also use shades because its still too bright.

You gotta get your eyes checked :)

Post a picture of your screen at highest veeco.

Photographing a screen never looks right and I couldn't use a flash. Take my word it is so bright it hurts my eyes.

Something is wrong with your computer.

i would definitely consider contacting apple about your iMac, it sounds like something is wrong. can you visit a store and make a judgement on how bright they are in consideration to yours?
