iMac screen brightness always max at boot with 10.5.8

Am I the only one having this bug? I have a 2009 24" iMac Radeon 4850 and after installing the 10.5.8 combo every time the machine boots the brightness is set to maximum.

I tried zapping the PRAM and that didn't help.

The other problem I noticed is that my startup network shares, even though checked to "hide" pop up finder windows at boot time. It never did this before (even without hide being checked).

Also feels sluggish. Any advice welcome.
 
I've had this brightness problem the whole time I've had my iMac. Hoping it's fixed in Snow Leopard ... I currently turn the brightness down as soon as I turn on the computer every time.

Someone else suggested in this forum that Apple recommend brightness to 1 (one click more than 0) - this saves it forever. 0 does not get saved for whatever reason.

Had this issue, used the solution above, and it works for me. Try it.

This worked, thank you!

Anyone have any idea of what I can do to get my startup network items to stop popping up on the desktop at boot time? That seems to have started happening in 10.5.8 too.

Ya, it is really annoying. I have 20 network shares that have files on them I need networked to the Mac such as music for iTunes. To make things work smoothly I put these network shares into my start up items.

Now, when the machine starts up, it sits there for a solid minute popping Finder windows for all of these shares all over the desktop. Then I get to close all of them.

Very annoying.

You would think at least the "hide" check box would make it so that these don't show up, but that's not the case either.

No, Snow Leopard GM doesn't even fix this. I didn't have it until 10.5.8 either. Trying the 1 out of 16 brightness 'trick' now. Shouldn't be necessary though, as this is clearly a bug. Side note, Snow Leopard is actually as snappy as they claim, wowzer. But I can also admit I see now what they only charged $29, most consumers want features they can hold in their hand and actually see. In that respect you wouldn't be able to tell you are on SL very easily. About 14 new wallpapers, nice ones.

Apple is scared of Win7, but SL is more of a service pack with the real work being done under the hood.

Hopefully SLs successor gives us the much needed major UI overhaul that the OS is due for.

You really think OS X needs a major UI overhaul? I really love the way that the operating system system looks. So simple, and clean.

The Finder is horribly dated and you can't even cut/paste files in it.

So, ya, there's work to be done.
