I have had my iMac since September of last year, and I've never had a problem with burn-in. The icons "Macintosh HD" and "Untitled" (Windows HD) have been In the same place since September, and have yet to burn in. Yesterday, I dragged a few images to the desktop. When I deleted them today, I saw they were burnt into the screen. Does this ever go away? They seem to be fading, but I'm not sure.

Try following these tips from Apple. I haven't had a computer with burn-in before, but my Plasma TV has. It has this burn-in remover where it a moving white-black gradient background. You can try looking for a screensaver that does this for you or you can just use a all white background as your desktop and after an hour or so, use a all black background.
