I picked up a new 24" Core 2 Extreme iMac last night. For the most part I love the machine. The screen is beautiful, I like the keyboard (probably because I've had a MacBook for over a year), and I actually think the Mighty Mouse is pretty cool. I just have one problem. There is something in the plastic covering the screen about 4 inches from the top and almost dead center. It looks like it may be a tiny air bubble. In any case, it can be REALLY distracting if the screen is white or really any other light color. So I was wondering what Apple's policy is on such things. Can I take it back for an exchange? If so, can I take it to a different Apple Store than I bought it from (mine was one of the last 2 they had last night, and the other one is a little closer to my house)?

If I can't return it (and I really don't look forward to packing it all back up), I'm sure I'd be able to live with it. But the distracting blemish disrupts what would otherwise be a very happy experience.

The iMac has a sheet of glass over the screen, not plastic. Perhaps you have a flaw in the glass. I would go and speak to apple about this, but it is definitely not normal. If its new, you may get a replacement.

You can, and should, take it back to Apple. I think any Apple Store will do although you might need to make an appointment to meet a "genius". Whatever the defect is Apple will certainly replace the part. I had a very faint scratch on the LCD panel of mine that I only noticed 5 months into using the thing. I sent it back to Apple and they promptly confirmed the shadow and replaced the entire LCD panel.

Good luck.

I made an appointment to take it in tonight. I also just called the store I'll be taking it to and they do have them in stock and it sounded like they're pretty good about doing exchanges. So good stuff. :)

Thanks for the input.
