have an iMac here that had the optical drive repaired somewhere else and it came back looking like this in the link

I'd take it back to the repair shop, they either damaged the cable that goes from the GPU to the display or the GPU has failed.

Putting on my moderator hat, I removed your serial number from the post, there's no need for it, and you don't want to post that number on an internet forum.
 
Thanks it belongs to a tradesman that done my roof and asked me what I thought as I fix laptops and install structured cabling etc

Would it be worth me taking it apart and seeing if I can do anything with it or is it time consuming and best left to go back to where it was fixed?

Which model is it? Does it have a 6970M?
