iMac seems to be reading external that is not there

For a long time I've had an external drive on my desktop named "Media Drive". It wasn't until recently that I realized that the iMac was mounting it as "Media Drive 1" on the backend. It doesn't seem to affect any of the files that are on it (some of which are linked into iTunes) but it does frustrate me because I don't understand it.

To my understanding, this happened because at some point there was more than one device connected called "Media Drive", most likely when I was moving from a 500 GB to a 1 TB device. However, now I can't get it to go away. It's not hurting anything - just an OCD thing I suppose. None of my other drives have that 1 there.

Does anyone have an idea why it's doing this and how I can get the iMac to realize there isn't any other drive with that name connected so it can revert back to not having the number added at the end? It irks me.

Ghost drive! Are you able to rename the mount?

Yeah, if I rename it anything except "Media Drive" the 1 drops off. The only thing I can think of is that somewhere in the OS it's reading that another drive by that name is connected somewhere.

Finally was able to find the screen where it was showing the unavailable "Media Drive" that it's holding onto, but I still have no idea where it truly is or how to get rid of it.

Attached is a screenshot of what I saw when I tried to open a DVD. It defaulted to a "Volumes" folder and showed every drive (Macintosh HD, iDisk, external drives, etc) connected to the iMac, and there is the proof of the duplicate folder names. Does this help at all? Can someone please tell me what's causing this?

I know that bumping is not really a great way to get your issue addressed, but this thread has been stagnant for a while and never really got much attention in the first place. Has anyone else seen this issue or have any idea how to fix it?

Are you OK with using the terminal?

If so:

ls -l /Volumes

and paste the result here.

Sorry it took so long to get this uploaded, have been crazy busy. Hope you're still around to see this.

As you can see there is a "Media Drive" listed under root apparently with weird permissions. So glad you showed me this command, I'm no good at anything terminal based. No matter how many times the computer is rebooted, that volume is always there, but it doesn't show up under the Disk Utility view.

haha Just noticed that it also read the DVD I'm watching. I promise it's the Andy Samberg movie, not anything inappropriate. But if it improves my street cred, it's totally the latter.
