iMac serial number

Hi,

As I'm eagerly waiting for delivery of my iMac sent me my care details containing the serial number of my new iMac i5 quad core 2.8g.

Anyway whilst waiting I remembered (from here), that you can check build week, number etc via appleserialnumberinfo website.

Anyway I did just that and found out that the iMac I will or should I say should be getting is a week 44 build made in Cork and it was number 1121 of that week.

Great..... But here's the thing..... It also states that it's a 2.93ghz i7 iMac 27

I have checked my order details and confirmation and that says I ordered the i5 2.8ghz iMac 27 which is correct.

Should I be concerned?
I've just bought an extra 4g of ram from Crucial for the i5 and if I really do get an i7 should I tell them?

I'm confused?


On a side note my Mac is being delivered by Syncreon Technologies?

Anybody heard of them? Also can't seem to track my order via there website which is annoying and the info on my account does not tell me much either!

Well in the unlikely case that you get an i7, then you should probably return it, otherwise if Apple does eventually find out, they might charge you the difference.

Then again, you could keep it, don't worry about the RAM as the i7 and i5 use the same type. Apple Serial Number Info don't always have 100% correct information, and seeing as this is a relatively new model iMac, then the database could be incorrect for your serial. Just wait and see.

If they send you an i7 by mistake, keep it and dont tell Apple. If they contact you, tell them its the i5 2.8 like you ordered. They cant come round your house and check.

They cant charge you for it. You dont have to pay for someone elses mistake.

Wait until you get the iMac. If it is an i7, and the machine is a keeper with no obvious defects, call Apple about it. They may just tell you to keep it at no extra cost. The cost of cross shipping a replacement, and the loss they'll take selling it as a refurb will be more than Apple's cost for the i7 upgrade.

Over on the MBP forum, someone had their new MBP arrive with registered Applecare which they never ordered, or paid for. They called Apple, and the Applecare was registered to his MBP mistake, but they let him keep it at no extra cost.

If it is an i7, and you don't report it to Apple, then you are committing fraud. It's just the same as if a bank deposits money into your account by error, and you don't report it, and spend it.

Well I was hoping that it would arrive as all the indications on the website pointed to today.

Have been trying to track the shipments, got the tracking numbers via US (for some reason the UK site does not give you tracking numbers for Sycreon & Kuehn Nagel).

The numbers though just don't work at the companies website so no idea when it will come now.

Sorry for going off topic there,

Anyway if I get an i7 I have decided that I will phone them up and see what they do otherwise karma will probably be a b#%{* to me

those serial number checkers are a bit suspect

my no. starts CK the box was plastered with stickers assembled in China

but the number checkers say Cork


I will leave it for you to decide

Arrived set up and it is indeed an i5 2.8gig
