I have an order for a new iMac, base model. On my order status it says ships weithin 24 hours. Is this true? The AppleCare rep I received an email from said this kind of order takes five to seven business days. I'm receiving a new imac because my old 24" died 4 times in 90 days (GPU failure every time).

iMac Shipping - does next day mean next day?

That means that it will ship from the warehouse within 24 hours, the actual delivery takes more time. It's just an estimation, the rep is pretty right, 5-7 days and it should arrive to your doorstep
Apple really needs to speed up their delivery process.
We have several online retailers in Sweden that ships the order the same day, as long as the order is placed before 14:00. Then the swedish post usually delivers it the next day.
So basically, everything that you order can be picked up at your local post office around noon the next day, that's around 20 hours from order to delivery. Worst case scenario it's the day after that.
Of course it will take more time to deliver internationally, but cannot figure out why Apple doesn't have a local warehouse in each country where they have a Apple Online store.

Even a warehouse in Scandinavia and Middle Europe would be sufficient, there is no need for warehouse in every country. That would speed up a lot.
What Apple has to offer in Europe is option for faster delivery. Currently they offer no options for shipping, it's just the normal extra slow snailmail. In US, you can pick next day delivery. overnight shipping etc. My iMac came from Czech but it took over a week for it to come even though it could have come straight from Czech to Finland. But it didn't. It travelled few days in Germany and then Austria and finally Sweden.
Yes, that's just crazy. Fast delivery option would be a very big step, just to have it shipped without any detours and stop (nights/weekends).
