I have a 24" 3GHz iMac, it's been run for 6-7 hours in total.

It has just started shutting itself off like the plug has been pulled, and wont let me start up again for around 10 minutes.

I had firefox running, but was not actually doing anything with the machine at the time, and so it doesn't feel too hot.

I'm guessing this is not normal behaviour! Any ideas??

No ideas then?

Well, I have returned the machine to the shop and will let them deal with it.

I hope that it's just a one off bad mac, it's just a bugger it happened after several hours of installing all the software on it.

It's definitely a hardware fault as it wont boot up at all now, not even with the system disc (which is now stuck in the drive).

It took me a long time to persuade the company I'm currently at to buy it instead of a windows machine too!

all in all, not a good introduction of apple products for them so far

Unfortunately nothing is perfect, even Macs! As my Mom says, "***** happens". Hopefully your replacement won't have any issues!
