Is there a way to turn off the pulsing light that appears on the iMac when it's in sleep mode? AS the Mac's in my bedroom I find it can be quite annoying when I want to sleep. Is there a software fix to this, or would it involve wire cutting? Please help....desperate student!

(Should've got the mini - smaller light :p)

Which revision iMac? Rev. B and later have a light sensor that dims the sleep light when it's dark. The Rev. A doesn't have one.

There is the Sleep Light patch for the Rev. A models (check software update). It does make the light dimmer, but not dim enough for a bedroom. I cut a piece of white cardboard to match the curved edge of the bezel and taped it over the light. Or, as been suggested, turn the machine off.

Are you trying to sleep with your eyes open? :p :p

Hehe, sorry, just can't quite believe that that tiny little pulsing light could keep anyone awake!

The ambient light sensor was introduced on the Rev B model, so presumably yours must have one too. Don't know about the Rev C but on the Rev B there's a little blob on the underside of the case, just to the right of the centre. If you hold your finger over it whilst the lights are on, or if you turn the lights off in the room you should notice the sleep light suddenly gets a lot dimmer.

Can't you just lean something up against it to cover the light... e.g. a book or DVD or something?

If you saw how much light is in my room at night...
Let's see, three external HDs with blue LEDs, the blue LED on my speakers (which is covered with duct tape), clock, light from the opposite side of my neighbors house coming straight through the trees into my window, which during the summer is replaced by an A/C unit. It's pretty bright in my room
