Hey everyone,

My new iMac (2.8 24") likes to completely ignore the Energy Saver settings. I'd like for it to put the display to sleep and eventually sleep itself after a certain amount of time, but it does not. I have called Applecare and they told me to reset my PRAM, at which point I had to get off the phone and could not try right away.

I power the machine on, press option-command-p-r as fast as possible, (before the gray screen comes on) but I do not get the second chime which signals the PRAM reset, and it just boots up regularly. This is on the alu wired keyboard too.

Any ideas why this PRAM reset wouldn't work? Or any similar sleep issues?

Thanks

You press and hold p r command and option at the same time. All four keys. Keep holding them. Don't let go when you hear the first sound. Keep holding them.

Yep I hold them down and do not remove them until the login screen comes. No second chime, just regular boot up. Just tried it 3 more times this morning. :(

I have the same problem with my Imac 2.8 24" aluminium keyboard. I cannot reset the PRAMs as indicated by no change in the date and time. I am trying to do it because I no longer can send sound out with Skype or record it with Photo Booth. I have tried opening and closing Garage Band as well as recording quicktime video and turning audio slider full on. I have the microphone set correctly under System preferences and have repeatedly toggled the options as previously suggested in another post.
All to no avail
