I have an i7 3.4ghz iMac with 16gb RAM that is taking 19seconds to come out of sleep mode and its getting really annoying! On lion, it would instantly come out of sleep.
Any ideas on what could be happening? I have 2 2tb drives connected and its also powering a 20in cinema display....don't see why that would matter tho, as I had the same config with lion and snow leopard and no problems.
Here's a pic of the setup I just posted on Flickr for shiits and gigs:
Thanks in advance for any suggestions to remedy this

I've been digging all over google and I can't seem to find anyone with this same problem....
It must be software specific I guess....I'm just puzzled as I haven't installed anything new since upgrading yesterday

I have a macbook pro with SSD and i am having the same issue.

I've spent the past 2 hours going through and uninstalling worthless apps and purging my downloads folder.....its been a long time, and a thorough cleaning was necessary.
Went downstairs to grab a beer, came back and the damn machine kernel panicked trying to come out of sleep???? Now I'm really MAD!

Can you describe a bit of your setup so we can try to find something in common that might be causing this?

Are you running time machine backups? I'm backing up my 1tb HD along with a 2tb drive via time machine

Any external hard-drives or monitors hooked up? Do you have a Wacom Tablet? I just deleted drivers from an Intuos5 and am currently using a Capture

Are you running Little Snitch?

did u use migration assistant from a previous Mac? I've been too lazy to start a new mac from scratch...so I migrated my PowerBook G4 that I got way back in grad school in 2004 running Panther-Tiger to a MacBook Pro in 2007 that I upgraded up until Snow Leopard and then to my current iMac about 10 months ago.....wonder if dragging all the clutter has brought crap that Mountain Lion is having trouble with?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to figure what could be causing this?

FOUND what was causing it on my machine.....after ML upgrade, AirDisplay app that I've only used once to remotely trigger my 7D dslr asked to be updated, since I was in the upgrade mood I said wtf.....big mistake, seems to be what was causing my issue as I now instantly wake from sleep touching my trackpad or keyboard.
Since I've only used it once, I just uninstalled. I don't know if there's anyway to keep it installed and remedy the sleep issue....

I'm experiencing a similar issue on my mid-2010 iMac, but I don't have AirDisplay installed. It seems like Mountain Lion handles sleep differently than Lion, as my machine completely loses network connectivity when it goes to sleep as well.

My iMac would drop the network on Lion and take about 30 seconds or so to regain a signal, but on ML I seem to hold the connection (however, my machine has only taken about a 20minute 'nap' so far so I'll see how it behaves once its 'slept' for a few hours)

I am also having this very same issue. I have an early 2011 27" iMac with 8gb RAM. I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard this morning. Everything went perfectly except for this one annoying issue! I don't have the piece of software you mention, and I can't track down what may be causing the problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Will let you know if I figure anything out. At first I assumed it could be Time Machine slowing things, but even after ejected that drive and restarting, it's still taking around 20 seconds to wake from sleep... it's pretty frustrating.

Cheers,
Xan :)

Me too

I not only have the sleep problem, when my iMac does wake up I can no longer use gestures on my track pad. I have to restart to get full usage!

I have a Mid 2007 iMac. Everything seemed to work fine in Lion, but after updating to ML, I lose internet connectivity. This never happens when I'm working/playing with it. It happens during sleep. Almost every time it's when it comes out of sleep mode. But occasionally it happens in the middle of sleep mode.

My iMac disconnects from the internet while sleeping which is getting irritating. It never happened on lion.
