I'm having a bit of a problem with my iMac 'snoring' when i send it to sleep. Possibly one in every four evenings when I hit the power button, the screen will go off however there is still a whirring noise coming from the unit. I can't tell if this is a hard drive or the case fan, but it's enough to keep me awake

Has anyone seen this problem? Anyone got a solution?

I don't have any helpful suggestions, but I have to say that when I saw the thread title, I imagined a sleeping Mac playing a real snoring sound from its speakers. I wonder if it's even possible to hack the firmware to do something like that? That'd be a great joke to play. :D

I was about to ask for the plugin to get my computer to do that. It would be too awesome :D

bah, you bunch of jokers :p ;)

No the fan doesn't stop, and also the computer will not awaken. It's a pain in the ass! I've reset the SMC and it seems to be a little better... however as it's an intermittent problem I am not so sure if its done anything.

The computer will not wake back up? How do you eventually get it working again?

does it just happen when you hot the power button?

hmmm, i've never experienced that problem with mine...what happens if you chose sleep from the ctrl-eject box (if you've got 10.4.9 you'll need to hold it down for a second or two of course) or from the :apple: menu?

Well I hold down the power button to kill it, then boot back up again. It hasn't happened since I resent the SMC (never heard of this before reading here), but I've been away so it's not been used as much... If it continues i guess I will have to call apple. It's got a three year warrenty so should be grand.
