On my iMac (24" 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) of about 2 years old I am getting crackling/interference on the left speaker when playing through the headphone/line out socket.

When playing through the iMac built in speakers all is fine, but only get this interference through the left speak only on my HiFi, the right speaker is fine, I have change the cable and still get the same problem, I never used to get this.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you have no problems via the internal speakers, obviously the problem is somewhere between the output socket and your hi-fi.

To check the socket, try listening through headphones. If this is ok, the problem will be between the lead to the hi-fi.

Try a different lead. If this doesn't sort the problem, it looks like the fault is in the hi-fi.

It's just a system of elimination.
