my friend has an iMac G5 and something happened when she plugged it in, when i suggested she post something on macrumors.com she replied "i'm scared, will you do it?" (she apparently isn't familiar with the fluffy side of the Mac community) so being the nice guy that i am, here it is. this is what she said:

I went to plug in the computer because I moved... and I plugged the thing into the back of the computer and then into the power strip, but the powerstrip was on and sparked... and it [the imac G5] wouldn't turn on... So I checked if it was the power strip but it wasn't because it still worked to do my speakers

so i guess the question is is the whole computer fried or could it just be the power unit and can it be replaced. or has this happened to anyone else? how much $$$? she has no applecare.

thank you for any kind of response

Basically if you get nothing when you try to turn it on, it could be one or both of these things:

1: LogicBoard (motherboard)
2: Power Supply

These would both cause the computer to do nothing when you press power.

I would recommend leaving it unplugged for a day or so. Then try it again. Sometimes computers magically work again. If it doesn't turn on, you have the option of having Apple figure it out, or you could do it yourself. I would recommend the Apple option if you aren't saavy.

Or, try to find an authorized Apple repair center. They may offer cheaper services.

Good luck
