Hi guys, I have a 17inch Imac and the internal speakers aren't working.

They will put sound out when I turn ON the computer (the apple sound), but not when the operating system is running.

The Audio preferences says there is a DIGITAL OUT, but no external speakers like there were before. the headphone jack is slightly tweaked from use and sometimes you have to wiggle the jack to get a stereo sound?

Any Ideas?

I`m not sure if this will work , but :

Go to "Spotlight" and search audio preferences , find the audio preference file and delete it.

Re-boot your iMac and go to System Pref. and set up your audio pref all over again.

This would work with OS 9 , still learning my way around OS X

I hope this helps ! :D

bummer

yeah that didn't work, my guess is that it might be a hardware issue? I don't know. The digital output works, but the speakers don't.

My girlfriend's iBook was displaying a "no sound" sign when trying to adjust the volume, and the speakers weren't working.

I reset the PRAM and PMU and the speakers went back to functioning normally.

Reset the computer while holding command+option+p+r. It's worth a shot.
