How good are the speakers on the new iMacs? Specifically, the 27" models (if they're different from the 21.5").

For instance, are they comparable to the Bose Companion 2? Better? Not as good?

27" iMac speakers: yay or nay?
Do you really need external speakers?

I have the 21.5 Late 2009 model and I can say that the stock speakers arent very good, but I'm someone that needs perfect clarity in my music listening. I'm sure the 27' speakers have to be better though.

I've got a late 2009 27" and I was surprised at how good the internal stock speakers are. I have a line out to an amp and M&K monitors, yet most of the time I prefer to just use the internal speakers. I only use the line out when playing electric guitar along to music from my iMac. Although sound quality is pretty darn good on the 27", what the stock speakers lack is serious volume.

I never use the standard iMac speakers, they're not bad but they're nowhere near high end. I have always used a good set of external speakers like JBL. Get a good sub and you'll be happy for the balance of sound alone.

edit: not saying JBL is high end lol

I have some Logitech external speakers currently, and they're okay. Thinking about buying a set of 2.1 Klipsch or Bose. Never really heard either brands speakers...can anyone help me decide which is better?

I use a pair of creative t20 with my imac and i love them.Good detail and bass but they wont fill a large room

They're pretty good speakers for casual use and some gaming, but they lack bass.
