How good are the iMac's speakers? I have a Macbook, and they're not very good, but that's to be expected from a laptop.
I'm no audiophile, but I do listen to a lot of music. I currently use a pair of £20 Logitech speakers, and they sound good to me.

Are the iMac's speakers any good, or are they tinny and quiet?

They are very good quality, and very loud.

Try this: I put them at not even full volume, and it was so loud the security guard told me to turn them down, and this is in the apple store which is always loud.

I have Logitech Z-2300 2.1s here they sound heaps better than the inbuilt speakers in the iMac AL. Good quality speakers are always going to sound heaps better than the inbuilts, but having said that sure the inbuilts sound okay and yes they are reasonably loud.

For built in speakers they are actually quite good. But I wouldn't recommend them for listening to music on a regular basis. They are fine for average desktop use, but not much more than that.

If you listen to a lot of music that I think you should do yourself a favor and get a decent pair of speakers. Or stick with the logitech if you like them.

Thanks everyone. I do like the Logitechs, but they're looking a bit tired and rough around the edges now. Can anyone recommend a good set, that preferably look good with the AL iMacs?

how about aluminum creature speakers by jbl? They're not made anymore but you can find a set pretty easily.

Will the iMac support a PC based 4.1 speaker system? I have a white 24" and an older (5 years or so) Klipsch 4.1 speaker system. Can that be installed on my iMac in 4.1, and, if not 4.1, then 2.1?

Thanks.

I really like the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0's I am using. They are fairly compact and provide amazing sound for a system without a sub. Nice thing is there are much less cords than with a 2.1 or 4.1 system. I listen to music mostly and they have a great range. $99 bucks or less and they sound WAY better than the built in speakers. I do agree though that the built in speakers are "not bad for internals".

Here is a link to some on eBay for reference:

Mine are black; wish I had the silver ones now, would look good with the AL iMac. ;)
