there pretty good for general stuff, YouTube, bit of video watching and some music.

if you want to use it for serious listening, then you can use the analogue or optical output on the back.

No bass frequencies. Great for podcasts, talk. My wife even complained at how poor they sounded playing music, and she rarely complains.

they are ok

but if you value bass at all then I would get some more speakers!

i have my imac hooked up to a mini hi-fi which does the trick!

i wouldn't think that the speakers are too great, so i would recommend some external speakers. Sony make some nice ones.

Very good i'd say, enough for all my needs. Of course something like a Bose Companion is way better, but that is like comparing an Audi to a Ferrari.

Save the wires and enjoy the internal speakers...

Are there any great speakers you could replace the internal speakers with? (For those of us that don't want additional desk clutter.)

I love to listen to music, and it's about time I replace my iMac G5.

Yeah, that about covers it. No bass, but sharp and clear on the upper half of the range. Great for basic listening, but not for movies or serious music. Wish there was a way of just connecting a subwoofer. Of course, on the other hand, the sound on every website and audio and video clip works, I get no stuttering or other problems, and the sound quality is consistent -- all major improvements over the basic sound in my former Windows machines.

question folks... is there any way to turn off the imac's speakers and just use the external ones? I have a nice set of speakers that was on my windows box and I have them connected to my iMac but I cannot figure out how to turn off the ones below the screen and just use the external ones.

(Yes, I'm a n00b to macs... and a PC user of 20+ years)

if your lead is pushed far enough in the internal speakers should automatically turn off!

I don't know if it's just my Imac, but if you have the volume really low the sounds quite fuzzy.
