iMac Speed

Hello everyone, I'm purchasing my first Mac. I'm considering iMac 3.06 or Mac Pro. In the PC world, I'm a total techie... ..always tweaking, upgrading etc...
My concern with the iMac is longevity. Is it realistic to hope for 4-5 years of use?

What I do:

I play the latest and greatest games.
I use Sonar (Multi-track recording) 8-10 tracks with multiple effects.
Any latency issues using an Alesis MultiMix8 USB mixing board?


Photoshop (.raw) 10-15mb files
Minor video editing...

If you really want a mac go for it but for the games you can build a real good gamer machine for the same price or lower than that.

That list really wasn't in order of importance... If it were, gaming would be last. Thats beside the point... I'm just looking for a system that can handle what I've asked about and HOPEFULLY handle it for a few years.
