hi everyone,

I have found that micro center is able to upgrade hard drive on my late 2015 27 inch iMac 5k to an ssd. I currently have a 1tb regular hd. Should i go this route or do a external one? Is there a difference?

How easy is it to setup a Mac to boot off external?

Thanks!

Easy to set up to boot off external. (Google is your friend). Speed difference between internal and external will be small. Depends no the cost and your budget.

Fastest, easiest, cheapest way to upgrade is to get something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00ZTRY532?tag=delt-20

Either a 240gb or 480gb will do.

These are small and light enough so that you could velcro it to the back of the iMac's stand, where it would be unobtrusive and out of sight.

Put your OS, apps, and accounts (see below) on the SSD.
Put your large libraries (music, photos, movies) onto the internal HDD.

Will give you a GREAT performance boost!
