Rite guys in a bit of a situation
i recently used my mac after bein idle for about 2 months
and as soon as i switched it on it went straight to the grey screen.
here is what ive tried

booting in safe mode- once safe mode boots i just go back to grey screen
booting in safe mode via- shift + cmd + v and again back to grey

finaly i went and put my snow leopard disk in and booted from that and done a fresh instal, which is fine until i try and click on safari - photobooth etc
it just comes up and says safari forced closed try again.
and once i restart back to gray.

Grrrr hope you understand what im saying, im not very good at explaining stuff

this happened to my macbook once, I'm not sure if this will help but if you have anything plugged in i.e. ipod, hard drive, phone. Try a reboot with out anything plugged in to usb.

If not then hope you find another solution

Can you boot of your OS X DVD and verify the HDD? Sounds like the hard disk may have problems.

i had been booting from disk all day, and doing fresh instal
also doing a disk utility check and that came back fine.

In the end im back up and running, i removed my HD and placed it back in
thanks for all you help
