For the last six months my iMac (2008, w/Applecare) has been regularly freezing under normal operation. During that time it has been to authorised retailers four times.

The first three times it went to KRCS, who stated they found nothing wrong with it. On the most recent occasion it went to Amsys, who said that the HDD was faulty and replaced it. Yet the problem is still occurring.

Please also bear in mind that this is all despite several fresh installs of various types. To describe it exactly, the computer screen freezes yet it is still possible to move the cursor. Before the HDD change it made a crunching sound, but now it does it silently.

I'm going to call Apple as soon as possible, so anything that could help identify the problem would be genuinely appreciated

Hello, my iMac had similar problems and I brought it in and they replaced the logic board, graphics card and the hard drive. I havent been able to check if it works yet but
My guess is that it does. Cheers!
