Hey guys i currently own an iMac and I have been having problems with the hard drive and a load of other things. Well yesterday I brought it in to the apple store and they gave me a brand new one for free. It is still having hard drive problems. I am wondering if i can bring it back and exchange it for a macbook pro 13 inch?

Ask for a new iMac again but don't open it, just sell it. Your iMac is worth 1699$ whereas 13" MBP is only 1199$ or 1499$ (though the high-end model is not worth it). You can make some easy profit
They won't exchange for a different item. I had a malfunctioning iPod classic. Mine was black. They were goin to just give me another but they had no black in stock. I asked if they'd just give me a silver one and they wouldn't. I had to wait for the black to get back in stock.
But i don't want to get a broken one again? Why cant i just return it and get a macbook pro?
If the iMac is brand new, just return it for all of your money back. Then use most of that money towards the base model 13" MBP. You can keep the change...

It's rather unlikely that you would get two defective ones in a row. BTW, what is wrong with the HD in the new one? Maybe it's not an HD failure but a software error.
You are most likely out of the 14-day return period, thus Apple will not accept a return. You can always ask but they have no need to exchange it for MBP
it is a clicking sound my friend had to exchange his 5 times just to get a working one. Do you think i can tell them i do not want to deal with this anymore and tell them i want a macbook pro instead? Because when they swapped the first one they di d it for free so can i ask to swap it for a mabook pro? Do you think they will do it?
When did you buy the iMac? If it's several months old, then probably not but if it's relatively new, you might be lucky. You can always ask, none of us knows what they will say

This is the result of the "new, better" 'green technology' being applied to ALL new hard drives where they park their heads in pre-determined intervals (usually +- 30sec).
Usually this can't be adjusted (can be on PCs with aftermarked appls.).

Usually this can't be adjusted (can be on PCs with aftermarked appls.).
And some drives are louder than others performing this function. For some drives even certain seek functions cause a sort click-thunk sound.
