Hi, I just bought a new 2.4 ghz iMac today. It set up fine and didn't take more then 5-10 minutes. The first thing I did when it was all set up was do a software update. It downloaded 10.5.2 and around 14 other things. After that it told me it had to restart, so i restarted it. The black screen stayed for around a whole minute and then it took around 10-12 minutes to turn on. I thought that was weird but guessed it was because of the software updates. I then had to restart it again later and it took even longer that time.

This isn't normal is it? My macbook with 512mb of ram and 1.83 ghz only takes 20-30 seconds to turn on :(

Any ideas why its doing this?

Thanks.

Thanks, i figured out the problem! :)

It was because the iMac was plugged into an extension cord, not the wall. Now its starting up fine.

What??? Wow, the electicity required for a restart is obviously moving too slowly along the longer cable than if you plugged it in directly to the socket:D:D:D

I'd seriously consider a new power company if I were you:D
