iMac throwing out disks

Hi there...

I'm new to this whole Mac owning malarkey, so please bear with me.
I've just got hold of a 1.6ghz Rev.a iMac G5, and in the process of playing around with what it can do I naturally attempted to play, watch and burn to & from cds.

While this all worked out well, it appears the drive has formed a kind of personallity complex, where disks are not so much ejected, but flung out at high speed. As much of a novelty that a "quick" eject is, it is most inconvenient to have to burrow under the cables behind my desk to find the disks.

My question, is this normal or can it be fixed in any way?

It's not supposed to do that--the disks are supposed to pop halfway out and stop, sort of like toast out of a toaster.

If memory serves, there's supposed to be a little cloth dust-stopping flange just inside that doubles as a grabber for the disks to keep them from flying out on eject--I wonder if that hasn't been removed somehow? (I thought the drive also sort of "grabbed" the disc, but maybe I'm remembering that wrong.)

Or, if you got it second-hand (sounds that way), perhaps the previous owner replaced/upgraded the drive and didn't take that into account on the new one (perhaps didn't care or thought it was cool)? Any way to ask?

As for fixing it, no suggestions... perhpas someone else will have an idea.
