Tried the iMac forums to no avail...thought I'd try here...

In need of some solid advice.

Here's my situation: I'd like to wire my iMac with my home theater system so that I can watch mkv's and other files on my hdtv. After measuring it out, I will need 30 feet of wiring (with room for slack) to go along the walls from iMac to home theater. I have found a number of HDMI cables in the 30 ft. length that I'm looking for that advertise to have consistent signal throughout the length of the cable, and I have found only one 30 ft. optical digital audio cable from a distributer that isn't very well known who also advertises to have consistent signal from end to end.

Does anyone have experience in dealing with connections of these kinds at these lengths? Will I really get a consistent signal? If not, what are my other options?

Also, to back track a bit -- is the optical audio cable the best thing to do? I'd assume to get a mini-adapter to fit it into the iMac's audio port. My receiver can accept a coaxial input as well as the optical.

Thanks in advance.

I only operate with about 7-10' separation so not sure about the effectiveness of 30' of cable. But what I use works at its distance.

Not sure of how well wireless options would work.

Too easy......

Go to Monoprice.com
they have the best deals for A/V cables and ship really fast. they even offer a mini-dvi to HDMI adapter.

Even at those lengths you will not see a degrade in video if your using HDMI because its a digital signal and not a analog

your best bet would be to run a optical toslink cable for you audio because it is also a digital signal and will not degrade do to length. all you need in a mini toslink plug and your good to go.
