Hi guys

I have a 3 week old 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 Mac. Last night I put it to sleep and it kept coming on by itself. So, in the end I shut it down completely. To my amazement, 45mins later it turned itself on. It was not in sleep - it was completely off. How is this possible? I checked the system log, and I can see the point that it woke up but cannot determine from this why it turned itself on. I have a USB hub connected and a wireless keyboard and mouse.

A solution that is 100% GUARANTEED to work for you:

1. Buy a power strip -- cheap, fancier, ANY kind at all.
2. Plug the iMac into the power strip (along with other peripherals).
3. When you shut down the iMac at night, reach down and FLIP OFF the switch on the power strip.
4. Before you power-up the iMac in the morning, reach down and FLIP ON the power strip.

Do this, and you will NEVER be bothered by spontaneous power-ons again.

Possibly due to network traffic aimed at that machine.

Switch off 'wake on network access' in System Preferences->Energy Saver.

I had the same issue and this fixed it.
