I already had 32 GB of RAM added for a total of 40 GB. I removed the two 4GB to add another 32GB for a total of 64GB. But when I did that iMac is not turning on (the screen is not, though I can hear it power on and I can hear that it's running when I put my ears close enough). I tried force quitting by holding the power button for a few seconds and then re-boot it about three times but same thing happens.

And this is in a what - 21.5" or 27"?

If a 21.5" sounds like gold screen connection, which is extremely fragile, is not connected or fractured. Only suggestion take it apart again. Always a good idea to use duct bor masking tape when re=assembling to make sure all is good before using double saided tape.

It is 27 inch. But it's fixed now, I took the RAMs out and put it back in. Maybe one of them wasn't put in all the way in the first time around, who knows.
