Hi,

I tried turing on my 17" iMac 1.83 C2D today. It turns on to a black screen, the white light in the bottom right turns on but thats about it. I tried reseting the PRAM but that didn't do anything. Any suggestions to get this thing back on?

most probably your video card. mine does the same thing too. sending it to the store tomorrow. it happened b4, they changed the video card. now it happens again. i remotely accessed my imac through my brother's macbook, the system info cannot detect any graphic card. probably mounting problem but it's really annoying to live without my main desktop for a week. i love mac os x but god they could've done much better in the hardware department.

Its definitely a video card issue! In warranty? If yes then you'd be wasting precious time posting in this forum rather than visiting an Apple Store!

P.S.: Is there something you've missed posting.... like some liquid or a fall?:)

Not necessarily a video card issue as I had the *exact* same thing happen to me. I'm 'gonna have to wrack my brain to remember exactly what they did to correct the problem. I know it had something to do with removing/inserting the power cord at an exact time which resets the sleep thingey.

No damage or fall at all. I actually fixed it last night but it happened again today. I pulled out the ram and made sure it was tight then it started up again with the gray apple screen. I had to reset the pram and I got back to the desktop. I opened up text edit today and the screen went black. Had to do the same process over again. Weird that it just started doing this out of the blue. It sucks that its not under warranty anymore. Checked another forum and it said it could be the logic board battery.

I have seen similar issues on some Macs before, where the HDD startup has become corrupted somehow. If you press the option key during bootup do you get anything come up? Might be worth a shot!
