When the imac receives it next update, whenever that is? Will we see the penryn chips added. Is their a chance that we just might see a speed increase with the current line of 65nm chips, What about the 2.8. What would they use for a speed increase for that imac, other than penryn.
I want to buy a new imac but think I should wait, since penryn offers 6 mib of L2 cache + sse4. Which should hold up Ok when Nehalem is let loose.

Since other companies are already using Penryns in their desktops and since the MBPs are likely going to get Penryns within the next two weeks, I think the next iMac update will bring Penryn with it. I think we'll see an update with Penryn on the Santa Rosa before we get Montevina.

If I were running Apple, I'd place a huge order with Intel and wait for Montevina to incorporated in the MBP's and iMacs at the same time.

Why? Business and Marketing Strategy. Montevina is unleashed in June, which means MBPs and iMacs can be revised in May, right around the time all those college bound high school seniors start graduating. And what are they going to need?

A computer! Who are the most likely users to switch from Mac to PC? wait, apple doesn't even have to make that arguement since their computers can run windows now too.

So how does Apple attact users looking for real performance upgrades. Simple. MONTEVINA, which offers 10+% speed boosts with the 1066 bus and greater battery life as well as other advantages.

Apple did the same thing with the iPhone btw. Launching in june allowed them to target college bound students in need of a cell phone. Just so happened alot of other people wanted one as well.
