hey there. can anyone take an educated guess as to whether apple will update the iMac at mac world? weather it be a huge update or just a speed bump?

is just i would like to buy one very soon but dont want it to be a waste

And the performance change if they did release Penryn iMacs would be very minimal. I don't think they'll release them next week.

It is very unlikely that Apple will update the iMac at Mac World.

The first candidate to get the new Penryn Mobile CPU will likely be the new "MacSubBook" rumored to launch. It is also possible, if not likely, that the MacBook Pro, possibly with a new GPU and perhaps new 17" LCDs with LED backlighting for the top-end model.

I expect Penryn to migrate to the iMac and MacBook come next Summer.

If Apple doesn't announce an update for the iMac at Macworld, when do you think they will update the iMac next? What have been the usual update times when they've updated their desktop models before?

I still want go get one, but have been waiting for the perfect time. According to the buyer's guide, the iMac is at the end of its cycle.

The processor is near the end of its cycle, but that's about it. And that bump won't be significant. As stated by another, a redesign won't happen for a while.

My guess (and it's only that) is that the iMac will receive a Penryn update sometime in the spring. There's an outside chance it will happen at MacWorld, but pretty unlikely.

Apple does not wstse time at their events talking about regular speed bump updates to their products. Some type of redesign has to take place for that to happen. Spring at the earliest, but I think it might not happen till the summer.
