Now that we have the MBP updates out of the way do you think that the iMac's are going to get updated any day soon? I am asking because I want to buy one for my parents.

could be 2-4 weeks or more if they just bump up to penryn, or even late may-june if they wait for montevina. if you can wait, you're better off waiting for montevina

Eidorian, did I read that engadget article right? Montevina will support DDR3 1066 MHz RAM? For some reason I though I had read elsewhere that it would only support DDR3 800 MHz RAM. That would be pretty significant if true.

EDIT: Looking at the wikipedia page, it says DDR3-800, which is likely where I read it. Any idea on which is correct?

I think that they will be updated fairly soon due to the same reason the Macbook was updated so soon (the expected short life of the current penryn processors)

It's more then likely DDR3-1066 since that is the slowest available on desktops.

There's alot more going on here than just the life span of the penryn processors.
