iMac Updates

Good morning,

Just 2 quick questions:

1) Was the PowerBook ever more powerful than the iMac?
2) Why do you think the Macbook Pro's keep getting processor updates, but the iMac isn't? Purely to differentiate the lines or because of space issues?

I bought my Intel iMac back in January, and now, processor wise, apart from the Mac Mini, it's got the lowest available processor in it. Seems a bit strange.

Seems a bit strange.

More likely just that they sell more lappys so keeping the MB and MBP's fresh is a higher priority than keeping the iMac or mini fresh. They'll probably keep the slower processors in the desktops until they run out of inventory or decide to lower the price point (overdue for the Core Solo mini IMHO).

Since the iMac processor is socketed and has been demonstrated as upgradeable, you could always consider upgrading the CPU yourself....

1. dont think the Powerbook was ever more powerful than the iMac (maybe it was for a short time before the iMac G5 was released...)

2. These constant updates in the MBP are worrying me aswell, don't know why its happening, probably due to all the problems they have had....hence the reason why I'm gonna give it a few weeks before getting my MacBook.

Anyway I think we'll see some iMac updates in a few months as they are still plenty fast as a small processor update is not really neccecary for the mean time as it will cost alot in production, and the iMac DCore's have been problem free, so I think Apple will leave there processors...and upgrade them all together towards the end of the year....
