I finally succeeded to convince my friend and neighbor to switch to Apple and buy an entry level 27.5" iMac. He bought it at the Apple Store on 7/19/2010 plus One to One. One week later Apple introduced the new iMac with a new processor architecture and faster graphics. Apple will exchange his iMac but charges a 10% restocking fee. So much for a happy Windows convert! Any suggestions?

I had the same thing. Just deal with it. Is the Mac experience so much worse now? Come one..... If he bought is i assume it fit his needs? Why is that different now? The specs are better with the new iMac but also more expensive.... Just be happy with your Mac.

hm, that's weird of them... I bought my unibody macbook then realize i need more speed and graphic speed for professional, i told them that and they waived the restocking fee

Chances are, if he bought it at the Apple store, then it wasn't BTO so he didn't need anything beyond the basic machine anyway. Why fret over an iMac refresh? Just enjoy the Mac!

I am the owner of 3 Macs. When I finally got to purchasing my MacBook Pro for my masters program, I knew that a refresh was due any day but I went ahead and got the laptop because I needed it, it fit my "performance" requirements, etc. Sure enough...a refresh happened soon thereafter but I just learned not to let it bother me. Whether you get it right before the refresh or right after, you're still going to have a great Mac that is going to last for years. Plus, maybe you won't have any issues that always seem to pop up after refreshes :)

I went back to the Apple Store, University Village in Seattle. My friend could exchange his iMac for the new one completely free of charge. No restocking fee. Great customer service!

The same thing happened to me. I purchased a 21.5" 3 weeks before the refresh was released. My local apple store let me return it and upgrade to a 27" core i5 with no restocking fee!

Excellent customer service!

My store waived my restocking fee and let me bring it back on day 17... They waived the restocking fee cuz they didn't have the current one in yet, but I went the next day and picked it up.

This is my First Mac, but we have had iphones for three years and that is the one thing that draws me in. The awesome service.

If you would have been a good friend you would have checked this page and would have told him to wait just a bit longer ;)
