Hey,

I have the Imac late 2012, 21.5 inch (2.7) and i want to upgrade the hdd storage to ssd as well upgrade my 8g ram to 16g.

My issue is that I have no idea which ssd storage/ram memory will work on apple.

If someone can help me get direction which storage/ram is recommended for imac that will be wonderfull.
As well if there is any difference between regular computer parts (storage and ram) like windows users to Imac computer parts.

Thank you in advance :)

Crucial and OWC supply both memory modules and Solid State Drives, and both are Mac specialists. Cracking the iMac is a reasonably difficult job and you might refer to teardowns at ifixit.com. Memory cannot be upgraded, in theory, on that model iMac, the Apple Store is the recommended route and not cheap.

It does has not hatch on the reverse to access memory, but needs a full and total strip down.

Hello, most/any desktop 2.5" SSDs that have normal SATA connectior should work with your computer.

RAM isn't upgradeable without cracking open the case.
Same for the internal drive, of course.

BUT -- IF you have USB3 -- you can buy a pre-built (or assemble one yourself) USB3 SSD, plug it into a USB3 port, and create an "external booter".

Fast, easy, cheap, and -- you don't run the risks of breaking something by going inside the case.
