Imac user account help!

I cannot get my user account to boot up on my imac.
After I have put in my password my desktop image comes on with the spinning wheel, no desktop icons load up at all it just stays the same.
I've tried forcing shutdown several times & rebooting & I keep getting the same problem, any help would be most appreciated.

Try another account if you have one. If not boot from the install disk and reset password and see what other useful things there are

Try this:
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
