I have a 2009 24" imac, and in the past week sufring on the web is almost unbearable no matter what browser I'm using, theres nothing wrong with my connection as ive an iphone and an ipad and they both work fine.
On certain websites it will not even load the page properly on others it takes forever (including this on). Ive unistalled flash and its still the same, any suggestions???

i read somewhere this could be to do with the router but I have no idea what do if it is.

Also experiencing the same issue... including Firefox. Seems to have started (post) OS X Security update from last week sometime.

Tried to clear the cache... disable Extensions, etc. per other forum observations/recommendations... doesn't help.

...anyone?

Try different dns settings on your modem. Try the google open dns. Safari seems to be sensitive to dns settings at least on my iPad.

Can you explain how to do that please.

1. System preferences
2. Network
3. Click Advanced
4. Click DNS tab
5. Click + sign
6. Add 208.67.222.222
7. Click + sign
8. Add 208.67.220.220
9. Click OK.
10. Exit System Preferences

Have you actually tried testing your internet connection speed.

speedtest.net is a good place to try.

Also clear the history and cache from your browser - that can help sometimes.

Also try a different browser.

Good luck :)

Manually set iMac's MTU. This can be done by following instructions within:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1040516/

Also... Within your iMac's Preference-Network-Advance settings, turn IP V6 to off. Many homes only use IP V4 (meaning, 4 digit set IP Addresses). Some Mac users turn this setting to off and it helps make their iMac's Internet access go faster.

Good luck...

Hi I am having the same issues as yourself with my i mac web pages loading very slowly and freezing did this advise help the problem?

It's now running a bit better. Runs fine for maybe an hour then starts to slow. A restart is then required.
Another weird thing is in chrome the flash plugin crashes constantly on certain sites.
Not sure if that's related at all with the other problems as I've uninstalled flash on my mac. YouTube still works fine though with chrome. All very strange. !!!!

Do this:

1) Reset Safari (Safari > Reset Safari)

2) Remove Safari's preference file
- Go to ~/Library/Preferences/ and remove com.apple.Safari.plist

3) Uninstall flash player

4) Log out and log back in

5) Re-install flash player

If all else fails look in both ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ --delete anything with 'toolbar' or 'browser' in the name.

Ive done the flash player thing, i dont have it on my mac now, just in chrome but I'll check out your last bit of advice cheers !!

heres my plug ins anything odd anyone can see??

Wow. I just did this and it made things snappier. Thank you.

I'm having the exact same problem. Also it's affecting every computer in my house.

This is my connection:
- router
- airport Extreme (bridge mode) which connects wirelessly to an
- airport express which shares the internet connection
- wirelessly to some computers
- via ehterntet to a switch
-connected via ethernet to the other computers of the house

Some pages load lightning fast while other pages don't load at all. It's driving me mad!
It started a few weeks ago, but in a mild way: some pages would not load and the "safari can't find the server" line would appear, though a refresh or two would fix the problem. I didn't pay too much attention to the issue but now it got to a point where I can't surf the web anymore.

My explanation for this is Black Ops.

I noticed that for at least the past month the Internet was fine after months of slowness. And it started when MW2 came out. And people quit playing XBOX often before Black Ops.

:) seriously it's driving me crazy.
I don't understand why some pages load with no problem whatsoever while others just wont load

I have no idea why but only Macs in my house had problems to connect to Internet. PCs were OK.

Switching OFF IP flood protection in my router configuration did the trick.
If no option for IP Flood look for DoS attack protection or similar.
It should be in router's firewall config.

have nearly same issue on my intel iMac , website load slower especially if they have pictures (for example ebay) taking ages to load them ,
and its not hardware related in any way so not faulty or wrong setup router and not a airport or ethernet problem on the iMac

and my PPC Mac's running osx tiger work fine and as i have a second partition on the iMac intel running osx tiger too because of apple talk
and there the same sites load nearly instantly including pictures

so it has to be a snow leopard problem of some sort
