I wanted to compare the new Mac Mini to the new iMac.

Mac Mini 2.53 320mb HD = 799
2.66g hz processor 150
320gb hd to 500gb HD 100
Magic Mouse 69
Wireless keyboard 69
Mac Mini 1187
Imac 1199 with 3.06g hz processor AND 21.5" HD screen!!

The iMac is MUCH less expensive than the Mac Mini!!!

Mac Mini is marketed as a entry level mac for people that have keyboards, mice and monitors already. If you don't need a new monitor, keyboard, or mouse the Mac Mini might appeal to you more.

When you upgrade, though, you get to re-use most, if not all, of the DKM accessories. That's the beauty of the Mini.

also i think the BTO options are usually very expensive for what they are.

some of course if you want them then you have no choice - like cpu, others like hdd you can buy 3rd party and install yourself.

not sure on the saving if any here but often you'll get a new disc for less than the apple upgrade and keep the original.

If you need to buy peripherals it is better to go for the iMac in most cases.

If you upgrade the mini to get as close to the imac's specs as possible it's going to look like a very bad comparison because the mini's upgrades are really bad values. $100 to go from 320 GB to 500? $150 to gain 133 mhz? Awful. But if you leave the mini as-is, or add some cheap 3rd party upgrades, it's a pretty capable mac for a lot less than even the cheapest imac.
