iMac waking from sleep help

So every night before I go to bed I plug in my girlfriend's iPhone and my iPhone in to the docks that we both have hooked up to the iMac in our room. I have it so I press the button on the back and it puts my Mac to sleep.

The question is it seems a few nights a week I will lay down and the Mac will wake back up. It makes a noise like its firing up and the screen will turn on.

Any reason why? I just want it to stop cause my girlfriend thinks its a ghost doing it

Is "wake for network access" under energy saver in system preferences checked?

Are either of your bluetooth peripherals' batteries critically low?

Go to System Preferences --> Energy Saver and see if you have checked Wake for Ethernet network access. If so, that will cause it to wake occasionally and that is normal.

It's only important if you need it. For example, I have it enabled because I like to use my iPhone and the Apple Remote app to play music from my iMac. If my iMac is asleep and I'm too lazy to get up from the couch, having this feature enabled allows my iPhone to wake up my iMac remotely and play my music.

There are other reasons to have it enabled, but if you weren't aware of this feature, you probably don't need it enabled.

No, it's not that important generally, but it does cater to some specific needs.

Since yours is checked, that's most likely the reason your iMac is waking up on its own.

It is Ethernet, not Internet.

You can also take a look at Applications / Utilities / Console and see, what it says around the time the Mac woke up.
